How to ACTUALLY Do Project-Based Learning (in any subject or grade level)
In this brand new workshop from A.J. Juliani, he walks attendees through the 5-Step process for authentic learning experiences (that hit standards and your curriculum). Learn how to start from a place of relevance, choose standards that learners can master, scaffold and structure creatively, and assess the process, learning and final product in meaningful ways. Attendees will leave inspired, motivated, and also ready to practically take on the challenge of authentic project-based learning.

Brett Salakas - Cold War Tech, David Hasselhoff and Classrooms of Today!
In this confronting ‘Spark Session’ participants will have their eyes opened to the secret history of the development of mobile devices. From this dark history comes a call to teach students to use this powerful technology wisely and for the greater good. Our deep-dive session mixes humor with ‘hands-on’ experiences. Participants will identify the archetypal concepts championed by cold war/80s icon David Hasselhoff. From there we will walk through a number of cutting edge/easy to use ed-Tech solutions that teachers can learn today and implement in their classrooms tomorrow!
In this session, you will be shocked by the historical development of mobile devices and then laugh and learn as we capitalise on the lessons of the past and help students have a brighter future.

A. J. Juliani - Empower: What Happens When Students Own Their Learning
Kids begin their learning journey as curious problem solvers who ask questions and create solutions. As they go through school, something happens to many of our students, and they begin to play the game of school, eager to be compliant and follow a path instead of making their own.  As teachers, leaders, and parents, we have the opportunity to be the guide in our kids' education and unleash the creative potential of each and every student. In a world that is ever-changing, our job is not to prepare students for something; instead, our role is to help students prepare themselves for anything.

Carl Hooker - The Art of Failing
We live in a time when failure is both championed and feared. We tell our students to take risks. But without the right tools in place, failure can be wasted time and taking risks without intention can be misguided. In this Spark session and subsequent Deeper Dive we'll look at risks, failure, and rejection and how we can use these as tools to open up creative thinking.

Dr. Valerie Camille Jones - STEAM-y Math
Technology has revolutionized the way we communicate with each other. In this session, you will learn how to connect math & science using the latest mobile and student response technology. Discover ways to reinforce mathematical concepts through the latest gaming technology. Why compete with the video games that students love? Instead, incorporate “edutainment” video games into your lessons. We will also explore how interactive response activities can help teachers save time at the planning, engage students in art & music, and help learning retain the topics introduced in the lesson. STEAM-Y Math shows ways to facilitate a more connected classroom.

Make the Move Against 1:1, Why Technology Centers Work
In this visual, immediate gratification world in which we live, 1:1 technology programs seem to be all the rage. Has this improved learning? Yes, information is ubiquitous, but does the plethora of resources equal or even lead to higher achievement? How are critical thinking and interpersonal skills affected? Come to this session and learn why our school, through thoughtful discussion, came to the conclusion that a 1:1 program actually went against our mission of excellence. In our classes, students work in centers, often on computers, but just as often, engaged in meaningful face to face dialogue. Critical thinking becomes the focus, technology just a tool, which in turn enables deep learning. This session will allow time for audience conversation and debate.

Tony Vincent - Crafting a Class Brand
Tony Vincent didn’t want his class to be known as Mr. Vincent’s Fifth Grade. Rather than making himself the mascot, he co-developed a class identity with his students. His 2018-2019 class named themselves the Pixel Paws. Tony notes that when students rally around an authentic brand, they feel a strong sense of community, work harder, and achieve more. See the brand in action, understand how it was developed, and consider how you might give your class, club, or team a unique identity.
